About

slackist is a tech/entertainment/politics/design blog written by Matt Maggard, a web strategy and marketing professional in the Los Angeles area.

While much of the content on slackist will be web related, it won’t be solely so. It’s also a place for me to dig into the details on topics and industries where I am just an informed observer rather than a paid professional: politics and public policy, game and movie reviews, good design, genx, pop economics and just generally how to make things better.

slackist is a mix of short references to articles and news with longer pieces where I have more to discuss. If you are familiar with Daring Fireball, you’ll probably be pretty comfortable with the slackist format. I do have additional plans for slackist that I hope to move forward on in the future as time permits (as slackist is my hobby not my profession). But fundamentally slackist will always try to share interesting news, highlight quality thinking and analyze new products. It’s not going to try to cover all things in any specific category but be cross-section that helps people discover new things.

One thing I think you will notice is that slackist has a genx outlook. As much as those born in the early 60’s to the early 80’s have never much liked being grouped or standardized, growing up during the same times has given us a similar point of view on the world and we are starting to realize it. Often that slacker viewpoint, based on years watching things fall apart, brings a keen sense for how society, business and culture could be improved. slackist will try to help unshackle that inclination by being smart-alec-y, inquisitive, skeptical and a crusader for good solutions. Let’s stop, think and make it better.

Thanks for reading.
